How to Transfer Music and Video to Your iPhone, iTouch, iPod

Posted by 1 on

By default, iTunes will automatically sync all songs, photos, videos, and contacts to each iPhone that plugs into it.  If you do not wish to have your entire music library on your iPhone, this quick tutorial will walk you through the steps to manually manage music on your iDevice.

To set your iPhone to not sync automatically:

  1. Connect the iPhone to your computer
  2. Select the device in the left hand column
  3. In the Options section, un-check "Automatically Sync when this iPhone is connected."

This stops iTunes from coming up when you connect an iPhone. Now, when you want to sync your device, you will need to manually click sync in the bottom right hand side of iTunes.

To set iTunes up to not automatically sync for all iPhones:

  1. Click the Edit Menu and click Preferences.
  2. Click Devices at the top of the window
  3. Un-check "Disable automatic syncing for all iPhones."

With your device connected, click the Summary tab, then click Sync in the lower-right corner of the window. Or, if you've changed any sync settings, click Apply.

Now go to the 'Music' pane. Here you are able to manually select songs, playlists, or the entire library. You will do the same thing with 'Videos', 'Pictures', etc.
