How to Hard Restore Your iPhone

Posted by 1 on

Have you ever had your iPhone crash repeatedly or have so many problems that you had to do a software restore from iTunes? That usually fixes your problems, but if iTunes doesn't recognize your iPhone, then you should consider doing a hard restore.

Steps

  1. Turn Off the iPhone. If it is already turned off, ignore this step, and if it is restarting repeatedly, press and hold the home and the standby buttons together and hold them down until the screen goes dark.
  2. Turn It On. Hold down the home button and plug in the cord at the same time. In a few seconds the iPhone will start up. Continue holding the home button until a dialog appears in iTunes stating that your iPhone is in recovery mode. This could take about a minute to happen, so don't give up hope and let go, because if you do, you will have to start over again from scratch.
  3. Restore the Software Using iTunes. Follow the on-screen prompts, and if that doesn't work out for you, try going to apple's support page at http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414.
